Cochineal Production and Trade from Central America: Pre-Conquest to 1650

I have posted a new (old) paper on the blog today.  Its an old paper I wrote on cochineal back in graduate school, its just new to this blog.  Its titled- Cochineal Production and Trade from Central America: Pre-Conquest to 1650.  Here is the link for you.  Enjoy!

So why write a paper about a small dye producing insect? As it turns out it was a major commodity that played a part in international politics, trade, slavery, and cloth production.   Ever wonder what Queen Elizabeth I was really saying when she was wearing that red gown?  Ever wonder why Venetian Textile Guilds were so in love with red?  Or why it was so expensive?  I found it fascinating and I hope you like it.
